Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter – Molten Gold Review | Tan/Brown/Indian Skin

Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter – Molten Gold Review | Tan/Brown/Indian Skin

What the brand says – Maybelline Facestudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter Makeup effortlessly envelopes the skin in a molten metal sheen. Meet the secret to brilliant and luminous skin. This highlighter powder drenches skin in a melted metallic finish. Maybelline’s pearl pigments leave a reflective finish for a brilliant glowing skin.

Price & Availability: It is priced at ₹550 (but you can find it on a 15-20% discount on an online store). It is easily available online at Nykaa, Amazon, Myntra, Jabong and Flipkart. Offline, you can find it at Maybelline counters in Lifestyle Stores and Shoppers Stop. You can also get it in your local makeup store which has a Maybelline counter.

Packaging: The Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter comes in a standard round plastic flip open packaging with a clear top. The flip top clicks to close and hence the product stays secure once its shut. The highlighter fits in the palm of the hand and the clear top makes it easy to see the colour. The product name and shade are mentioned on the the clear lid as well. Even though it has a plastic packaging, this Maybelline highlighter is not that travel friendly due to its large-ish size. The product itself looks very pretty and has a nice, patterned texture in the form of concentric squares.

Shades: The Master Chrome Highlighter comes in 5 shades overall, but sadly only 2 of those are available in India – Molten Gold (100) & Molten Rose  Gold (050). I picked up the Molten Gold variant as the Molten Rose Gold is a little light for my tan skin tone. The Molten Gold Shade is a beautiful pure gold shade which is neither too yellow and nor too brown. It will suit deeper skin tones extremely well.

Texture and Application: Even though the Maybelline Master Chrome is a powder highlight, it feels extremely soft to touch. It has a velvety texture which is not at all powdery or chalky. The Molten Gold highlighter is extremely pigmented and you don’t need much product for an intense glow. I applied this to the high points of my face with the Wet n Wild Tapered Highlight Brush, which is practically my favourite brush to apply highlighter with. The Master Chrome highlighter went on very smoothly and gave my skin a nice and even finish. I did not face any patchiness with this product. The glow this gave me was oh-so-amazing! It blended well on the skin and the colour was just perfect for me. This Molten Gold shade does not give a natural, lit from within sort of glow but it didn’t look out of place either.

Staying Power: I’ve used this highlighter on multiple occasions and most of them have been for over 9 hours. This did not budge from my face and my face looked radiant even after those long hours (a lot of which included heavy dancing). The maximum time I’ve worn this was for 11 hours and it faded a little by then. But it should last you well for a night out or any wedding function you have to attend. You won’t have to worry about the Maybelline Master Chrome highlighter moving from its place, especially if you set it with any setting spray. I found this highlighter photographed nicely too.

Final Thoughts: If you haven’t guessed already, I’m absolutely in love with the Maybelline Master Chrome Molten Gold highlighter. It was the most used highlighter for me in 2018 and has quickly become by go to highlighter, especially for weddings or special occasions. I would not term it as an everyday highlighter for me as I prefer something which is a little subtle, but this is my number 1 for the evenings. If you have light or fairer skin then this might be a little too gold for you, but if you have tan/brown/deep skin, then this is a must-have in your makeup collection!

Pros Cons
• Beautiful colour • Might not suit very fair skin tones
• Easy availability
 Affordable, especially during a sale
• Looks great on the skin
• Long lasting

The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter Review | Oily Skin

NYX Total Control Drop Foundation Review | 15 – Caramel | Oily Skin

NYX Total Control Drop Foundation Review | 15 – Caramel | Oily Skin

NYX Total Control Drop Foundation is one of those Insta-famous foundations as it comes with a dropper which lets you drop the foundation directly onto the face. NYX recently extended the shade range of this foundation in India and now it’s available in 25 shades. (30 shades overall, 25 in India) Major props to NYX for having an actual gradient in their shade range where the shades go from extremely light to extremely deep. Let’s see how this foundation performs on my oily skin.

What the brand says: Customize your coverage like a pro with our Total Control Drop Foundation! Now available in six more shades to accommodate an even wider range of skin tones, this fan-favorite foundation provides sheer-to-full coverage and a soft matte finish. Use the included glass dropper to fine-tune this velvety-matte formula to your heart’s desire.

Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Propylene Glycol, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Isododecane, Dimethicone, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylene Carbonate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol. MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

Price & Availability: It is priced at ₹1250 for 0.43 FL OZ/13 ml. The quantity is rather less for the price as a standard foundation is usually 1 FL OZ/30 ml. It is available online at Nykaa (keep a lookout for 15% – 20% discount on NYX products). Offline, you can find it at the NYX store at Inorbit Mall, Mumbai or at various Nykaa stores across the country.

Shade: 15 Caramel. This shade has a warm undertone and matches me perfectly. It will suit tan skin tones with an olive or warm undertone. For shade reference I am NC 44 in MAC Studio Fix Fluid. You can check out my other Foundation shade matches here.

Packaging: The NYX Total Control Drop foundation comes in a frosted glass bottle with an external black box. The usage instructions given on the box state that 2+ drops are required for a sheer coverage, 3+ for a medium and 4+ drops for a full coverage. (It’s essential to know that ‘drop’ does not refer to just one tiny drop of the foundation. It means one full squeeze/load of the dropper.) The bottle is very tiny as compared to my other foundations. It comes with a dropper which has a black rubber top which screws on tightly and makes the foundation travel friendly.

Texture: This foundation has an extremely thin, almost water-like consistency. It is so runny that if I take some foundation out on the back of my hand, I really need to balance it, otherwise it would slide down.

Application & Coverage: I started out with a clean, moisturised face and took out two drops at the back of my hand (didn’t have the guts to put it directly on the face :p). I dotted it all over my face and began blending it out with a beauty sponge. As the foundation was too thin, almost all of it was being absorbed by the sponge leaving a very sheer coverage. I decided to switch to a face brush (I used the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush) for a better coverage. The foundation blended out well on my skin and the brush brush did not cause any streaking or patchiness. Those 2 drops gave me a nice, skin-like sheer coverage, but I could still see my redness and acne marks so decided to build up the foundation to a medium-full coverage.

With NYX Total Control Drop – Caramel

It took me around 4-5 drops to achieve a medium-full coverage but the surprising thing about this foundation was that it did not feel cakey AT ALL. As the consistency is very thin, it was almost like blending water on my face! It smoothed out my skin and filled in my pores to some extent without accentuating them. It ended up covering my redness and acne scars well. The NYX Total Control Drop Foundation did not feel heavy on the skin at all. It set to a natural, velvet matte finish.

Flashback: This foundation passed the photo flash test and gave almost little to no flashback. I tested it out by clicking a flash photo in low lighting from my phone as well as my camera. This foundation actually photographed really well. Let me know in the comments below if you would like to see flash photos included in my posts 🙂

Staying Power: I used the Laura Mercier Translucent setting powder to set this foundation all over my face. The foundation stayed fresh for about 4-5 hours after application after which my nose started getting really oily. After about 6 hours I noticed that my face was pretty shiny especially around my forehead and cheeks. As my mouth area was slightly on the drier side before application, it remained intact without any breaking apart. The foundation also started settling into the fine lines a little but did not crease much. The oiliness was easily blotted away with a blotting paper and I applied a light layer of the powder again. This gave me an extended wear time of about 2-3 hours.

My Overall Experience:

I liked the NYX Total Drop Foundation for its texture and finish on the skin. It gave me a very skin like finish and did not make me look cakey at all. However, it did not last that well on my oily skin. I wouldn’t use this for days when I have to make my foundation stay for over 5 hours without any touch up. In my opinion it is a perfect foundation for someone with combination skin. But if you have an excessively oily skin like mine, then you can give it a pass as you can find more long lasting foundations for a cheaper price. However, I will continue to use this foundation as an everyday foundation because of the way it photographs and makes the skin look!

Pros Cons
• Smooth and lightweight finish • Expensive for the quantity
• Great shade range • Not long lasting on oily skin
• Buildable coverage • Limited offline availability
• Not cakey
• No flashback
