NYX Powder Puff Lippie Review + Swatches On Tan/Brown Skin

NYX Powder Puff Lippie Review + Swatches On Tan/Brown Skin

What the brand says: Pucker up and powder your pout! Featuring a pillowy cushion-applicator, our new Powder Puff Lippie Powder Lip Cream goes on mousse-y and sets to a powdery soft finish. Achieve a flush of color in eight vibrant shades—from warm peach to true red, and hot pink to cool plum—for an irresistible, just-kissed look.

Price & Availability: The NYX Powder Puff Lippies are priced at ₹650 for 12 ml. The price is quite affordable as we get 12 ml in this whereas in usual liquid lipsticks we get around 4-5 ml. It is available online on Nykaa Offline, it can be found at NYX stores in Mumbai.

Packaging:  These lipsticks come in a rectangle shaped outer box which has all the info about the product. The liquid lipsticks themselves come in a plastic tube which needs to be squeezed to get the product out. The color of the tube matches the color of the lipstick in the tube so if you have more than one, it will be easy to differentiate between them without having to read the name every time. NYX Powder Puff Lippies have a cushion applicator which absorbs quite some product when you’re trying to apply it.

Shade: The powder puff lippies are available in 8 shades, out of which I picked up 4 – Squad Goals, Moody, Cool Intentions & Pop Quiz.

Squad Goals – This is described as a ‘Tea Rose Pink’ by the company. This was a light pink shade which sort of washed me out. If you’re a few shades lighter than me then it will be a beautiful pink on you. I feel it looks better on my brown skin when I blend it with a darker lip liner. In the picture below, I am wearing the shade Squad Goals on its own without a lip liner

Moody – This shade is described as a ‘Cool Toned Plum’ by NYX Cosmetics. It suited my brown skin really well and is one of my favourite shades from this range. Moody is a universal shade which will look good on all skin tones.

Cool Intentions – Described as a ‘Light Brown with Pink Undertones’ by the company, this shade is a perfect MLBB shade for me. It evens out my lip colour very well and looks like a brown nude on my skin tone. Anyone who has a deeper skin tone than mine might have to use Cool Intentions with a darker lip liner for it to suit them. However, for people with a lighter skin tone than mine, this shade will look like a nice brown colour on your lips

Pop Quiz – This shade is described as a ‘Berry’ by the company. Even though I enjoy deeper shades for my skin tone, I’m not a fan of pink toned reds and did not find this colour very appealing on me. If you like such tones, it’s a pretty universal shade and would suit all skin tones.

Application & Texture: The NYX Powder Puff Lippies have a sponge like cushion applicator with a fat rounded tip. This rounded edge makes precise application really hard and it’s not very easy to apply the lipstick evenly on the corner of the lips. It’s easier to wear these lipsticks after defining your lips with a lip liner so that the lips only need to be filled. These lipsticks have a soft, mousse-y texture which feels extremely comfortable on the lips. However, I found that the formula wasn’t very consistent across the range when it came to coverage. The shades ‘Squad Goals’ and ‘Pop Quiz’ were a bit streaky when applied and needed multiple coats for even application. I also felt that this applicator added to the uneven application as it made the lipstick move around the lips.

The lipsticks stay true to their name and dry down to a powder like finish. They are not extremely matte and feel comfortable on the lips without drying them down. The NYX Powder Puff Lippies don’t accentuate any dryness on the lips and don’t settle in the fine lines. These lippies remind me of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams in terms of the formula.

Staying Power: The NYX Powder Puff Lippies are not transfer proof and have very inconsistent formulas. The shades ‘Squad Goals’ and ‘Cool Intentions’ stayed put on the lips for 3-4 hours with light snacking and then started fading away from the centre of the lips. The shade ‘Moody’ also stayed put on the lips for 3 hours but instead of fading away evenly, the colour started bleeding and gave me a weird ring of colour around my lips. It was like the water and the lip pigment were separating. The shade ‘Pop Quiz’ started bleeding around my lips in just 1 hour of application. I had to take the lipstick off and apply something else as it looked unappealing. However, none of these lipsticks will stay put through a proper meal as they are not matte lipsticks and they rub off pretty easily.

My Overall Experience:

Even though the NYX Powder Puff Lippies look like a fun lipstick to own with the unique cushion applicator and nice shades, I was left a little disappointed with them. The formulas were inconsistent, they didn’t last very long and some shades started bleeding around my lips. I would probably only re use 2 out of the 4 shades I own but they would not be my first choice when it comes to picking up a lipstick. I feel that NYX has many more lipstick formulas which are definitely better than these and have more colour options as well. So from my side, I would not recommend these lipsticks, especially if you are looking for a long lasting lipstick.

Pros Cons
• Comfortable on the lips  • Limited availability
• Different cushion applicator  • Inconsistent formula
• Universal shades  • Patchy and Streaky on lips
 • Certain shades start bleeding
